Human/Artist and Art therapist : “My own healing journey has been shaped by change, loss, starting afresh and learning to put down roots in a new country. Through that experience, I discovered just how powerful creativity, movement and expression can be in going beyond words and reconnecting with yourself.

I trained as an art therapist at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and combine my professional expertise with my own life experience.

I believe that healing is not about becoming someone else, but about coming home to who you truly are. Guided by this belief, I create a safe space in which you are free to discover, feel and express what lies within you.”

Experimental Monotype

Maria is a visual artist and art educator from Greece, based in Rotterdam. Her work sits between printmaking, painting and graphic design, with printmaking being her main specialisation. She mainly works with spray paint and handmade stencils, while constantly experimenting with different materials and techniques.

She believes that art should be accessible to everyone and that you don’t need to be an “artist” to enjoy making things. Her workshops are all about trying things out, getting a little messy and having fun with the process, no previous experience or “being good at art” needed!

What is Monotype?

In this workshop, we are going to experiment with this unique technique that sits between painting and printmaking. Get prepared to get your hands “dirty” while you explore and understand more deeply how a print surface affects the paper.
We are going to work with a multitude of different ways using brushes, different textures, pointy objects, and even our hands!

In Monotype, basically, you draw on a hard and shiny surface, you edit and alter the paint surface as you wish, and then you print that onto paper. It is a really liberating process where the procedure can offer more than the outcome.

Collaging inner worlds and public personas

Ana is a research-focused visual artist, writer, and educator based in Rotterdam South. Her artistic practice, often collaborative and undisciplined, thinks humanness and its relations to both the human and the more-than-human. She uses digital and analogue still and moving images, archival and borrowed material, collage and embroidery, and poetic and discursive text to probe memory and imagination, identity and belonging, and home and/as body.

The Fundamentals of Animation

Throughout Florian’s career animation has been an outlet for creativity, passion and the desire to tell stories. In 2019 his love for animation bursted out into the online series Amazing Animation Analysis, where he explains how his favorite animations are made. Teaching others about the animation process developed into a new passion.

In this workshop Florian will share this passion by explaining the animation fundamentals. His goal is to bring as many people as he can into the beautiful world of animation.

Anyone can animate when they know the fundamentals! In this workshop you’ll learn the two main building blocks of animation: Timing and Spacing. With the help of some trusty sticky-notes we’ll animate the traditional way, on paper! Can you draw a circle? A dot? That’s all you’ll need to know for first part of the workshop, animating a bouncing ball!

The second part of the workshop is all fun, with your new found skills you’ll make your own animation or add on to your existing one. If you know the fundamentals you can never dream too big!

the light inside of safe spaces

Thin is a fine art and education student from Utrecht. In her final year she’s researching what it means to have a safe space and how that differs between different groups of people. In her workshop she will combine this theme with her own artistic practice of making paper lamps.

What are safe spaces and how do we make a place feel secure? In this workshop you will learn how to make a paper lamp based on your own visual perception of safety.
