Kunstmaatjes is an inclusive art program where children of all abilities can explore, create, and connect. Our mission is simple: we want it to be normal for kids to grow up together, learning from each other and celebrating differences through creativity.

How It Started

Kunstmaatjes began when SportMee consultants highlighted a gap: children with special needs often had limited access to extracurricular art programs. Recognizing that creativity can be a powerful tool for social connection and self-expression, Art is Home designed a space where all children—regardless of ability—can participate equally.

How It Works

The program now runs at two locations in Rotterdam, making it more accessible to families across the city. Sessions are free to attend, though a voluntary donation of €10 per session helps sustain the program. Each workshop is led by an experienced facilitator and artist, creating a safe, playful, and inspiring environment for every child.

Workshops are designed to encourage creativity, self-expression, and social connection, enabling children to experiment with different art forms while learning to collaborate and communicate with peers of varying abilities.

Who It Reaches

Kunstmaatjes welcomes children with autism, sensory sensitivities, developmental differences, or other access needs, as well as their peers. By bringing children together in a supportive environment, the program fosters confidence, resilience, and meaningful friendships.

Impact

For facilitators and artists, the program provides an opportunity to create meaningful, lasting impact in the community.
